Burston Footpath 36 - bridge replacement update

Dear Residents

We have been provided the following update from Staffordshire County Council:

As promised, I am writing to update you on the progress that is being made on the Burston footbridge installation on the Sandon and Burston Footpath 36.

I am pleased to report that work, which started two weeks ago, has already made strong progress.

Our engineers have now excavated the site and built the foundations needed for the new bridge to sit on. These foundations now need time and dry conditions to cure so, in the meantime, crews will be progressing to the next stage of works.

This week, crews will begin to create a temporary access road so that the heavy equipment needed to install the bridge can be safely moved onto site.

Crews will then transport the new bridge components to site and begin to assemble them.

Work currently remains on track for completion in August, providing weather and ground conditions continue to be favourable.

Unfortunately, our crews have seen a few people attempt to cross into the construction area to try and get a closer look at the works happening.  While I appreciate there is a lot of interest in this new bridge, it is still a dangerous construction site, and people must respect the closures in place for their own safety.

We would, therefore, be grateful for your support with reminding people not to move barriers or enter the closed section of the footpath.

I want to thank you all for your continued patience as we work to reopen this popular route as soon as possible.

I will continue to send you fortnightly updates on the bridge’s progress until it is complete.
