Footpath 36 - All Saints Way - Bridge opened - 26.08.2026

Staffordshire County Council has provided the following update:
Dear All
I am delighted to share that the new Burston footbridge has now been installed and the section of Sandon and Burston Footpath 36 between the River Trent and Burston Lane has reopened to the public.
The new bridge, which crosses the River Trent and forms part of the popular route between Sandon and Burston, replaces the previous structure after it was damaged by a fallen tree.
It has been a long journey to get to this point, and we have faced a number of challenges along the way, but I am really pleased that the route is now open again for residents and visitors to enjoy.
We have invested more than £100,000 in the new bridge because we know how important this route is to the local community. Rather than simply replacing the previous structure like for like, we wanted to take the opportunity to provide a larger bridge that is built higher above the water level to make it more flood-resilient.
This bridge has been designed to be long-lasting so people can enjoy this route for many years to come.
I want to take this opportunity to thank you for your incredible patience throughout the process, and I am delighted that walkers can now once again enjoy this beautiful part of Staffordshire.
Kind regards
Cllr Hayley Coles
Deputy Leader
Cabinet Member for Communities & Culture
